other-playgrounds

In response to David’s round-up of the world’s most unusual playgrounds, Victor from Stockholm sent us this message via Twitter: “To restore order in the universe, here are some really crappy playgrounds.”

Some are hilarious, some look fake (or staged), most are depressing. But if you want to feel better about the old tire swing you grew up with, check these out.

  1. When I was in the Soviet Union, we found a playground with a slide made out of wooden planks. In the summer, I could imagine having to pick splinters out of my backside, but in December in St. Petersburg, there was a nice coating of ice over the wood.

  2. Fun! If you survive the rusty slide, you probably die from the polluted water!

  3. Oh wow! Those were awful! I have to say, the statue of the girl with the bleeding eyes was the creepiest.

  4. Is it just me or does the video in the 2nd link above http://www.sverigessamstasida.se/ryskalekparker.php match too strangely to your “Crazy Little Quiz Called Queen” in the preceding post? Is this where you get your ideas for posts? Just saying…
If you don’t know what I mean, check out the video of the strange looking slide on this link while you have the Queen quiz open.
    Coincidence? I think not.
    H

  5. How about some warning that clicking the link would take you to a picture of a GIANT FREAKING SPIDER?

  6. @HP

Yes, I stole that Idea and warped thru time, created a swedish site, made an article about the worst of russian playgrounds(or w/e those tortured sculptures represent) just so I could throw in a link to that video to piss you off…

  7. I’m not sure what’s creepier….the playgrounds of the bizarre rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody playing in the video.

  8. Is anyone else baffled by HP’s comment? Is he accusing mental floss (or the guy who suggested the link) of something? Is there a joke in there somewhere? Help me out!

  9. I have actually seen one of those inflatable things like in the video at the end. It wasn’t a slide, it was a giant worm. Kids went in through the front and came out the back. It looked even more…wrong…in person, freaky bohemian rhapsody or not

  10. I think many of the wooden sculptures are quite interesting and creative, though they all have profoundly unfortunate paint jobs.

  11. Ok so I just showed my 4 and 6 year old these pics before bed and I think I just traumatized them!! hehehehehe Guess I will be up all night with nightmares!!1 hahha serves me right!! Those are downright scary. I cant imaging climbing in the elephents mouth and shooting out its butt!!! (I think it works that way) And that penis slide. way too much. Most of those carvings would be great on Halloween!!!
