Today’s Brain Game depicts a map of (roughly) the eastern half of the United States. Certain states have been highlighted in yellow. Can you determine what they have in common? (Hint: it has nothing to do with geography; try to identify the highlighted states by name.) Good luck!

The part I found funny is how New Jersey, the main reason for the existence of this quiz, isn’t highlighted. Though the quiz is still correct, I just found that observation slightly ironic.

Hmmmmm. Didn’t get that one. good quiz. I had they all share an “N”

Steven, I thought that too while putting together the list… and you’re right, it’s funny that the board doesn’t mention New Jersey (or even Atlantic City, for that matter).
I kinda thought someone would give me grief for not highlighting Ohio, since the initials in the B & O Railorad stand for “Baltimore & Ohio.” Of course, it’s early yet… :)

Steven, although New Jersey is related to the quiz, it does not have the same thing in common :)

They also all have the letter ‘N’ in them. I know thats not what you were going for here, just pointing it out haha

True, but if we were looking for “N,” we’d have also had to include New Jersey, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, West Virginia, and so on.
Good thinking, though. I didn’t notice when I was compiling them that they all shared a letter.

Hey Sandy – What about Ohio? – B&O Railroad? …..

I was assuming it was some kind of trick with the letters, and was going crazy trying to figure out what property North Carolina might have that South Carolina didn’t.

Although New Jersey is not mentioned by name in the game or it’s properties, Boardwalk is, and although there are other boardwalks throughout the country, it is universally accepted when you say “Boardwalk” you are talking about the Atlantic City Boardwalk. The same could not be said of “Park Place,” “Marving Gardens,” or St. Charles.”

Oops! thought that Connecticut was Delaware (I’m really tired).
For a while I was thinking that they all had first names in them; Virginia, Carol, York, Penny, Kent, Ana… then I was having to get too creative. Ness? Tom (Vermont), Lin or Lois (Illinois)?
I was also thinking they all had Ns but of course I had Delaware! (From which you could get the name Del.) :)
Yeah, spent way too much time on this one.

Wow, I wrote these down on a piece of paper, knew within seconds that they were all in Monopoly, but figured that was too obscure to be the answer. Pretty happy with myself right now. Good Brain Game!
