On classic TV sitcoms, sometimes Dad’s job was front and center (think Ben Cartwright in Bonanza), and other times, it was hopelessly vague (in Leave it to Beaver, Ward Cleaver merely went to “the office”). How well do you remember the vocations of various TV patriarchs?

Take the Quiz: TV Dads

  1. Some of these go so far back, I barely remember the shows (and I am OLD!). But, really, Paul Buckman as a TV dad? Seems like a bit of a stretch. I know they had a child toward the end of the series, but the majority of the series focused on them as a couple. But, as always, enjoyable!

  2. I don’t know, Hyacinth, didn’t they devote multiple seasons to his wife’s postpartum depression? I think I had tuned out already, but I think the kid was part of the show for at least a few seasons. Not sure why I remember this but the kid’s name was an acronym: Mothers Always Bring Extra Love.

  3. I only missed one–yeah, I watch way too much TV.

  4. I had the same reaction as Hyacinth about Paul on Mad About You.
Not really what comes to mind when you think TV dads.

  5. Part of it may be that I also had tuned out Mad About You by the time they had the baby. I guess when I think of TV Dads, though, I think of “Make Room for Daddy,” “Leave it to Beaver,” “The Donna Reed Show,” “Full House,” and those type shows that focus on a dad and his family (however it may be structured and perhaps dysfunctional). Mad About You just doesn’t pop into my head, even though they were ultimately parents.

  6. 80% – although I was surprised that Paul from Mad About You was on the quiz. Then I remembered the final season of the show…

Anybody know what happened to the girl from My Two Dads?

  7. I was amazed to get 6 out of 10, since I really didn’t watch any of these except Mad About You, and I’m not sure why I watched that, or when. Which is weird since I love pop culture so much :)
