Woody Hayes, the lengendary Ohio State coach, once worked for hall of fame pitcher Cy Young. After Young retired he managed a small town semi-pro baseball team. Young would pay Woody a nickel to cut the grass at the baseball diamond.

@ Hyacinth

All referees are required to have outside jobs, even though the salary of am NFL referee is around $100K (they get paid so well to discourage taking money from gamblers to fix a game, and there's a lot of pressure as an NFL ref)

I'm sure you could find out the jobs of most referees. One of the most famous referees is Ed Hochuli, who is a lawyer or judge.

In addition to their regular jobs, they are required to work out regularly watch videotape and attend reffing clinics in the offseason.

At least, I recall hearing all these things over the yrs of following the NFL.

One of my fave coaches jobs was Mike Martz who only got a job as a coaching assistant for a college if he agreed to also serve as a janitor at the school.
