This year Disney has been letting everyone into their parks for free on their birthday, but next year’s Give A Day, Get A Disney Day promotion is even cooler: donate a day of your time to a volunteer organization and get a free ticket to the Disney park of your choice.
There are, of course, rules: only one ticket will be issued per person, you can only volunteer at one of the organizations on their site (none are listed yet), and no more than 8 people per household can receive tickets. Still, all and all, it’s a great program and a good way to motivate people to volunteer their time. What do you think _flossers, will you participate?

Totally depends on the organizations they choose.

Man I hope this goes on long enough for me to get back to America next year. I’ll be in California for a while in the summer so I’ll definitely take them up on the free day.

think about it…all u r doing is benefiting Disney. is this really a worthy cause? there r many non-profit organizations that really need volunteers.

The only problem with this is that a lot of people won’t do it just for the fact that even if they get the free ticket, they won’t be able to get to Disney World. And once you’re there, you still have to pay for food, lodging, etc. Not to say that volunteering isn’t worthwhile on its own, but as an incentive, the free ticket isn’t much unless you live near Disney World anyway.

@Nancy H It is through Hands On a volunteer clearing house for non profits like Habitat for Humanity. You don’t do the volunteer work for Disney itself. They have always had their Volunt-Ears that work with local agencies that encourages their cast members to volunteer.
I will be signing up on 1/1/10 for myself and my teenage boys. That is a benefit for living about a half hour away.

I signed up for the birthday pass this year but was unable to go to Disneyland that particular day (I thought the pass was too restrictive since you could only go on the actual day) but I’m willing to try the volunteer program if I can choose when to go and as long as the causes are worthwhile and available in AZ.

You know, it just occured to me that it says any Disney park… does that include EuroDisney and TokyoDisney? That would be beyond awesome!

That would be really cool if you weren’t sure where you were going to go on vacation. A free day at Disney would be worth the trip if your travel plans were flexible or likely to take you into the area. And if you had the idea of going to Disney anyway, it would be a great way to save money while helping your community.

It’s a good idea. Have you checked the prices of tickets at D-Land lately?

My family and I have long been annual pass holders at Disneyland and think this is a great idea. Disneyland does not have to be expensive. While we have the passes we have never paid for food, you are allowed to bring a 6 pack sized cooler for each person in your group. Very easy to pack a lunch in a backpack. Anything to get people to volunteer more is great. This year we did the birthday thing for our girls. If you were already pass holders you got a gift card to use at any Disney store in the park worth the price of the ticket. I wonder if they will do the same for this deal.

My only problem with this program is this. What can you really see and do in ONE day at Disney? Do you realize how HUGE the place is? And then you have to think about all the standing in line you will be doing and the food, travel and lodging that you still have to pay for. For ONE day is it really worth it? I am a volunteer already but unless you do one of their approved volunteer jobs, you don’t get a chance. So I don’t think it is fair. They should let ANYONE who volunteers anywhere to do it. Not just off of an approved list of jobs!
