Sure, you took a civics class back in elementary school, but how much did you really learn about the legislative process? There’s plenty of quirks in the system and a lot of stuff that just seems obvious, but isn’t. So fire up the Schoolhouse Rock video and put your legislative knowledge to the test.

  1. 8/10

Not bad for a Canadian who never watched Schoolhouse Rock!

reCaptcha: its aces (well, not quite, but I think 80% is pretty good, thanks!)

  2. Fahrenheit 9/11 taught me one part of a bill becoming a law that I hadn’t known – that Congressmen and Senators don’t actually read the bills put before them, leading them to pass any ridiculous piece of legislation regardless of what it asks.

  3. Sorry, but question 10 is misleading – the Senate gets a week off for Columbus Day, but the House is traditionally back in session the following day.

  4. I’m American and far too ashamed to share my score.

  5. el- You’re exactly right. Thanks for pointing that out. I reworded the question.

And while we’re on the topic, let’s take a moment to pity the poor Senators that won’t get to enjoy their recess next week.

  6. Me too, K. I think I will look up all the Schoolhouse Rock videos online tonight and re-educate myself.

    “I’m just a bill on Capitol Hill…”

  7. No problem, Jason — I just happen to work on the House side and am sad that we don’t get the same break. But at least now I can claim my 10 out of 10!
