I love a good b-movie monster — the cheesier the better — and thought I’d share some trailers for my favorites. First, though, in an act of shameless self-promotion, I figured I’d post the b-movie I made for Mental Floss awhile back.
Cut together with footage from a hundred different b-movies and cheez-tastic educational films, with narration by Tom Pagnotti and a nice opening graphic by Jon Gutman and Matt Clausen.
Love-hungry spacemen come to seize our women that their race may LIVE!
An alien bird from an antimatter galaxy (whatever that means) visits Earth to wreak havoc! I don’t think he’s interested in our women, however. (Thank goodness.)
A science experiment turns hundreds of lab shrews (like lab mice, but more vicious!) into 100-lb eating machines.
Reptilicus is just like Godzilla — only sillier-looking!
A dose of classic cheez directed by Roger Corman. I used several shots in Attack of the Parasites.
Atomic energy turns a horde of ants into GIANT ants! If you’ve got to sit through any of these films in its entirety, Them! is your best bet — it’s actually pretty entertaining.
Nuclear explosions free dinosaurs from their “icy tombs” beneath the polar ice caps, at which point they go on Godzilla-like rampages. Perhaps the most ridiculous premise of all the movies on this list, and that’s saying something.
Another Roger Corman extravaganza, this time about giant leeches (no wait, this time it’s crabs) menacing a remote island.
I love how the first minute of the Beast From 20,000 Fathoms trailer could be attached to that of An Inconvenient Truth or at least The Day After Tomorrow.

My favorite B-Movie monster had to be the squid guy from ‘Sting of Death’.

I love that the “Killer Shrews” are really just dogs in really poorly designed suits. :D
