scorpions are relatively common in china, they are sometimes fried, grilled or even live on skewers. You can find them in regular takeaway stands and shops in Beijing. I've tried both fried (tastes like soft-shell crab) and once "drunken scorpion", where they cut off the stinger and put it in high-alcohol wine until it can't pinch you, let alone know where it put its keys, and you eat it live.

The first one was delicious, the second tasted like crunchy alcohol, which I guess would be great for frat boys looking for a thrill. I found it disgusting. Uncooked scorpion tastes like mush coated in popcorn shell.

Dawn, a possible reason why they used singapore might have been a misunderstanding from the use of the term singaporian. For example in the philippines taxi drivers will use the term singaporian to describe almost anyone to the west of the philippines. To me the food looks like it could be from one of the countries just south of china like laos or thailand.

There is a place in washington, dc called Oyamel. They have a grasshopper taco...hundreds of tiny grasshoppers definitely fried in a spicy sauce or rub. Delicioso! I get it every time I go there!

I'm from Singapore - and I've never seen scorpions sold that way. Nor do I know anyone who has eaten scorpions unless they've gone on some exotic holiday somewhere else.
