There is a town called KoÅ›ciuszko in the great (and unlikely) state of Mississippi. Not much to see there, but I recall it was named after Andreus Kosciuszko, and there was a little place on the square that had a great chicken salad sandwich.

The one and only fact I remember about Pulaski after all my years of Illinois public schooling is that he died of gangrene of the testicles. I have no idea if it’s true or not, though.

There’s the Pulaski Skyway that runs through Secaucus, New Jersey. It’s the way to get to Hoboken without taking the NJ Turnpike.

“Casimir Pulaski Day” by Sufjan Stevens, by the way, is the saddest song ever written.

In Chicago, there is a KoÅ›ciuszko Park, one block east of Pulaski Road.

If you’re ever in the Savannah area, you can still visit Fort Pulaski (pronounced Pull-ass-kee). I took many a field trip with my school and Girl Scouts to the Fort. There’s a National Park Service link to the Fort, in case you’re interested!

I live in Pulaski, VA. We pronounce it pyoo-LAS-key. I have heard of people pronouncing it pyoo-laskEYE in other localities.

The article is mistaken about honorary citizenship. The Senate passed a joint resolution in 2007 (S.J.Res 5), but it died in the House. This year, each house has passed its own joint resolution (S.J.Res 12 and H.J.Res 26), but need to agree on one of them before it can go to President Obama for signature.
