Since “Balloon Boy” Falcon Heene is safe, it’s only natural that he’s now an internet meme. It happened in record time, and will probably burn out as fast.

The Chicago Flood of 1992 was caused by an illegal underground railroad system that everyone forgot about. When the collapse finally came, it took a live radio report from the “drain” before authorities could figure out what happened. (via Metafilter)

The Hottest Heads of State. I would rank the Prince of Liechtenstein higher and Vladimir Putin lower, but otherwise it’s a pretty good list. (via YesButNoButYes)

  1. I had forgotten about those pink elephants! And I always thought that boat ride was pretty messed up.

  2. I’d ask where they got a picture of Putin in a wifebeater, but it’s Putin, so I shouldn’t be surprised that it’s in the public domain.

  3. I guess I’m the only kid who had to leave the room when the horrific Wizard of Oz appeared in his namesake movie. That guy scared me to death until I was 10 or so.

Click my name for a link… yikes!

  4. I am glad the boy is O.K. but I hope it was not a publicity stunt.

  5. quite an amazing list- the hottest heads of state… I’d put Putin further down the list- but then, I live ‘next door’ to him- where all little guys are basically scared of what he’s going to do next… and our own Yulia T- she’s amazing, for sure- once got arrested and hauled off to jail- cops came to get her when she was in the shower- wouldn’t put her at the top of the list, though (I’d put a guy there- haha).
and the last 2- majorly funny. Enjoyed the list…
and I enjoyed the Chicago flood link, too.

  6. odd how those tunnels still cause problems here…bet that’s part of what made the expressway buckle last week when they were filling one.
