Actually, the painting in the credits of Good Times IS listed- it’s a slightly altered version of The Sugar Shack (though a mention of Good Times would have been appropriate).

Michael: I found so much interesting information about Barnes, I couldn’t fit nearly all of it, so I tried to focus on the aspects of his life and work that were less well-known. In addition to the painting in the credits of “Good Times,” Barnes also created all the artwork that was attributed to the character JJ in the show. (He made a few guest appearances, too.

Ernie Barnes is my FAVORITE artist. I had the honor and pleasure of meeting him back in 2002. I have several of his prints. He left us too soon!

No mention of what could arguably be Barnes’ most famous work – for the TV show ‘Good Times’? He created the iconic image used under the title credits as well as all the other paintings purportedly painted by the character JJ.

Barnes’s paintings are fabulous! This is yet another example of a truly multi-talented person who also had the ambition to make his dreams come true. Great post!
