I saw these on the ever-brilliant Boingboing, and thought the concept was so thought-provoking it deserved to be posted. A photographer named Dulce Pinzon has taken snaps of Mexican immigrants doing their work while dressed up as superheroes. From Pinzon’s artist statement:
The Mexican economy has quietly become dependent on the money sent from workers in the US. Conversely, the US economy has quietly become dependent on the labor of Mexican immigrants. Along with the depth of their sacrifice, it is the quietness of this dependence which makes Mexican immigrant workers a subject of interest.
The principal objective of this series is to pay homage to these brave and determined men and women that somehow manage, without the help of any supernatural power, to withstand extreme conditions of labor in order to help their families and communities survive and prosper.
I’ve posted 2 pics, but if you’re interested, you can view more here. Link via Boingboing.
I must’ve missed the part where it said they were illegal.

oh, good point! I think I assumed it from all the use of the word “quietly” in the artist’s statement. I’m going to change the heading in a second.

Genius.
I think Miss Cellania is jealous she was not chosen as a subject by the photographer. This is another example of immigrants stealing all those great jobs from worthy, deserving pale-Americans. Do not despair, Miss. If you work hard enough, you, too, can work at the laundromat!

i love it… who the hell cares if theyre “illegal”…if you had those jobs, you would be bitching about that too!!! so keep living your suburbian life and keep watching your OC on your tivo…and shut the hell up!
