Made the trip out there a few times and was never so happy and safe when I made it back to the Bronx. Action Park was a place where (as someone above alluded to) tough guys from the streets went to a Mad Max waterworld and never backed down from any risk to life, limb or reputation.

My first time on that 100 ft tall near-vertical slide at the top end of the park (forget the name of it. partially due to PTAPS ((Post Traumatic Action Park Syndrome)) and brain damage) I was next to go and noticed that there was no rollbar or overhead cover at the top of the slide. Needless to say the second I put my right foot on the slide it slipped and I rolled forward. The very next thing I knew was I was plummeting down the slide with my legs over one side and my head over the other. This was not the recommended method of transportation. Somehow I was able to pull myself into the fetal postion and finish the descent within the confines of the slide. The "lifeguards" had one stay up and block off the chutes while two of them shot the tubes down themselves to see if i was OK. I told them i was fine and that I wanted to go again. They escorted me up and I opened the ride with my next (more successful) run. Good Times!

I was there in the 80's and my last time was in 94. I also lost skin on the alpine slide. I remember the cliff dive where you jump straight off a 100 ft cliff into a pool. I hit my hands so hard they were red for hours. I also got thrown out of the boat on the Colorado river ride and left the ride bleeding. They should have called it shark attack ride because everyone would come off that thing covered in blood.

I am 34 years old and still have the scars the Alpine Slide left for me to remember. I was only eight years old when I excitedly jumped on this ride I went down so fast and lost control. I had huge abrasions on both knees and my left elbow I am so glad they got rid of this ride

I grew up in Vernon, NJ in the 80's. We called it "Traction Park" because so many people got injured.

Growing up in Northern NJ, we went to Action Park often. All I remember was getting stuck in a very dark, very long giant green tube. I had to shimmy my way to the light! Then had to tip myself out, into what seemed like a VERY long drop into freezing water. I beleive this is where my claustrophobia stems from!! Probably have some other traumatizing memories that I have thankfully blocked out. Plus, I have since hated water parks!

I've never been there, but a few of my roommates were from Philly and they went to Action Park when they were kids. One said it was the first time he ever had a broken bone (his wrist.) He was, I believe, four at the time.

I had heard about my uncle skinning his hands very badly on a waterslide at this park. Then when I finally went there my friend's stepmom had an asthma attack due to the requirement that you carry the huge inner tubes up numerous flights of stairs for some ride. I went on one waterslide that didn't seem to have enough water pressure because everyone was getting stuck in one area before the next drop. In the struggle to get myself to the next drop among the wallowing masses, I lost my tube which went down the drop without me. I tried to steal my friend's tube (shamefully) and somehow we went over the edge as she struggled to get away from me. Hm then we ran into one of her friends who tripped over something and hurt his knee badly. Even not ON the rides people got hurt there. I remember seeing the looping waterslide and staring at it in disbelief. I couldn't understand how that could possibly work. It's was was much more intimidating and insane looking to see in person than in the pictures. Oh and the water rapids ride, when we went through the tunnel part our tube slammed into the wall and somehow collapsed in on itself. Then we got stuck somewhere and were just wallowing around for a while in some little area that we couldn't get out of. It was poorly designed but hilarious and fun. I'm just glad we survived it.

I grew up in Sparta NJ, and frequently visited Action Park.I went there maybe 20 times. The Alpine slide was so dangerous, and people would heckle you going down it. I def suffered from skin burns. My friends and I would see if we could gun it all the way down, and I would always have to slow down. I seen many people injured on it. The cliff jump was very dangerous too, and so was the Tarzan swing. The water was sooo cold when you landed. I remember this really tall slide that you would get a major wedgie from. Very fun place, but def really dangerous place.
