Awesome post though. I was wondering how in the hell someone could pick those colors for the Broncos’ uniforms.

I also agree with Tucker. I’m glad Mental Floss has some posts pertaining to the NFL. Knowledge and football are a good mix.

The original Raiders uni’s were black and gold, with just gold numbers on a black helmet. Why no mention of that?

The broncos uni’s are bad but how bad were the eagles throwbacks from last year. Has anybody watched a UFL game yet?….Worst uniforms ever.

Laura – those are the old orange AFL uniforms that on-field officials wore. It was decided that both the players on the field – and the audience on TV – would have an easier time identifying the officials if they wore a stand-out color. Makes sense!

Those Bronco uni’s looked sillier when the socks got twisted.

My vote for worst of all time would be the Orlando Thunder of the WFL – the jerseys were a kind of iridescent lime-gold. I swear they could have held night practices without the lights – and been visible from space.

Loved the old Pat’s logo.
On the other hand the old Tampa Bay Buc’s logo – not very intimidating.

The funny thing is, after mentioning the name Bisons twice during the Bills section, the red logo on the helmet is then referred to as a buffalo.

The animal often referred to as a “buffalo” in North America is actually a bison. Buffalo live in Africa.

The best thing about the Bronco’s throwbacks is that they are the same colors as my high school. Brown and Gold. Unfortunately it sets you up for a lot of jokes about how you can show school spirit by shopping for underwear at Goodwill.
