That’s One Big Baby…
by Mangesh Hattikudur - February 1, 2007 - 10:21 AM

capt.ny11002010906.mexico_big_baby_ny110.jpgYahoo News is reporting that a newborn baby from Cancun called “Super Tonio” is causing quite the stir in the resort town. Apparently, the kid popped out of the oven at a sturdy 14.5 pounds. In fact, the baby’s become quite a spectacle, as Cancun residents have been crowding around the nursery’s ward window to get a peek. According to the article, Tonio (Antonio Vasconcelos), downs 5 ounces of milk every three hours, and after just a couple of days is already 22 inches tall. And while this kid is definitely big boned, he doesn’t exactly measure up to Guinness standards. The World Record Book has the heaviest baby born to a healthy mother down at 22 pounds, 8 ounces in September 1955. Read more here at Yahoo.

  1. I understand they are usuing the afterbirth as a quilt…for the parents!

  2. that baby does not look healthy at all…he’s all chub! probably an infant of a diabetic mother, and in general, these kids face increased risks later in life from health probslems related to obesity, diabetes, etcetc. gross.

  3. I heard about this ‘little’ guy on the news last night. Thank god he was a c-section!

  4. Tonio is a lightweight compared to 17-lb. Ademilton of Brazil. No linkage allowed, but you can read about him at MSNBC dot com.

  5. A neighbor of mine had a 12 lb. baby 14 years ago, apparently the longest baby ever born in our metropolitan hospital. The mother said, “never again.” She meant it. “Sasha”s an only child.
