Just as an addition, the "Swedish fish" candies produced in the U.S are actually produced on license from Malaco, so it's still Swedish actually.

I can tell you that the salt licorice version is AWESOME.

A few years ago, I visited Stockholm for work. My brother always loved Swedish fish, so I thought it would be fun to buy him some from Sweden.

Stockholm has a lot of small candy stores that sell candy in barrels. So I went into one and found one barrel with the red-green-yellow kind and one with all black. I bought some of both.

On the way out, I couldn't resist trying the black kind. I nearly spit it out! But after tasting it, I fell hopeless in love.

Fortunately, you can find the salty stuff around New York City if you look for it.

"Out of the primordial ooze of the sugar sea, from whence the flora and fauna of the gummy earth have evolved, come the Swedish Fish."

This is awesome. I squeed when I saw this. As someone whose love for these gumtastic treasures knows no bounds, my heart is now bursting with joy. Thank you. (Sometimes it's the little things. Especially when you're stuck at work.)
