The first irrational number that Greeks discovered is the square root of 2.
According to legend, Hippasus, a student of Pythagoras, discovered it and was drown to death because Pythagorean Brotherhood was so shocked by the existence of irrational number.
And about Pi...Greeks only achieved 22/7，and they never proved its irrationality.
Actually, it was not proved until 1768AD.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for writing up the song! We came across it when my son's 7th grade math teacher played it for the class. (It was the short version, probably for the reason mentioned by Ki above, and because the long version got pretty long). Anyway, he played it twice and I guess the kids really got into it and were singing the chorus so loudly that other teachers were peeking in on the class! It was a fun way to honor pi day at school.

Not bad, but there's a better Pi song out there. It's called (what else?) "Pi" by a great comedy duo, Hard 'n Phirm. Check it out!

I was going to forward this to some math teachers I know, but they wouldn't be able to show the whole thing since it mentions masturbation...

ugh. you got me all excited but that song was awful. he couldn't even sing the digits to the tune of the song properly, so it's not like it would be a useful way to remember them.
