I woke up this morning a little sore. My whole right side felt as though a serious workout had been undertaken.

That was not the case.

I didn’t even walk the dog yesterday, my usual pinnacle of physical activity. During breakfast, I remembered why I was aching – I was bowling.

The repetitive swinging of a twelve-pound sphere would understandably work my muscles. But I did my bowling in the confines of my company’s conference room, where we’ve set up a Nintendo Wii (I also played nine sets of tennis, losing all nine.)

powerglove.jpgThis was my first experience with the Wii. As shocked as I was by the soreness, the fact that I’m strongly considering buying one is even more surprising. They’ve come a long way since the goofy Power Glove in 1989. I’m 27, and before yesterday, my next video game console would have been years from now, for my non-existent children. Nintendo has truly changed the (video) game.

My friend and co-worker (and superior tennis player/inferior bowler) Noah posted about how the Wii came about yesterday.

So I have to ask: is anyone else hooked on Wii?

  1. I too am addicted. you play one once, and you have to have it.
    it gets better, I promise!

  2. We enjoy the Wii as well. It’s interesting to see how social an activity playing it is… during a couple of our recent social gatherings at home, the Wii got turned on and everyone got involved, whether playing a game or making likenesses of people in Mii.

  3. My brother got a wii for christmas. I played boxing all day and the next day it felt like I had gotten in a real fight. I mean EXTREME soreness I couldn’t even laugh. I like the news channel and the Mii channel. I can’t wait for super smash bros. to come out!

  4. Nintendo definitely has a winner on this one. I don’t think there’s ever been a day when I didn’t come home and picked up the controller and just go.

If I have a show I want to watch on the couch online, or a youtube video that I want to show my roommates, I can just go and launch the internet watch it on the Wii.

Warioware is a good game that gives you a jolly good shaking. Unlike the repetitive motions of the Wii Sports, Warioware has a lot of hilarious mini-games that make you move your entire body. The soundtrack makes you bop your body. As long as you (and your friends) are uninhibited about squatting, flapping your arms like a bird, jumping and dancing, you’ll get a full body soreout with a Wii.

  5. The Wii is the best invention since inventions started being invented. The Super Bowl had nothing on the Madden Bowl we had following.

  6. Dave — How is Wii Madden? I’m thinking about renting it one morning before work. That probably crosses some line, but I’m that curious. Do you use a throwing motion? Spin moves? Fill us in.
