The “Literature in Song” article has a glaring omission:
The Cure’s “Killing an Arab” is a rift on “The Stranger” (L’Étranger) by Camus. And, they wrote and recorded it while in secondary school. Basing a popular song on an existential masterpiece is not bad for a bunch of teenagers. The evocative retitling of the tale probably helped.
