I cannot find youtube clips / videos of the 1976 sesame street episode with the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton). I’d like to see a video of the episode, if anyone has access to the sesame street episode 0847 episode. If I saw such an episode back then, I’d be really scared. But today, I’m 21 and I don’t think certain things on Sesame Street can scare me. That would be great! Thank you!

Melissa, one factor in that equation is the fact that the TV universe was a lot smaller back in the 1970s. There were only four main networks (ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS) so the interaction between shows was a bit more “normal,” I guess. Plus, there was no real “smut” on TV back then, at least nowhere near the degree that exists today, so it wasn’t that far of a stretch to put “Laugh-In” actors on “Sesame Street.” SCTV might have pushed it a bit, since it was more adult, but even it was pretty mild compared to much of today’s prime-time content.

So I’m a little young to know, so I pose this to any children of the ’70s and early ’80s, but did SCTV and Laugh In appeal to the same audience (read: young children) as SS or would it have been like the season one cast of SNL showing up?

Obvi I can’t watch the video at work, but thanks for the mention of Gob Bluth and the music. My boyfriend and I are in the middle of watching Arrested Development (end of season one now) and ADORE Gob’s music.

Just rechecked episodes of Hulu, and I can confirm that the theme song for GOB is the same on Arrested as it is on Sesame Street.
