I think you mean DNA fingerprinting technology. Thermos aquaticus, a bacterium that lives in Yellowstone, produces Taq polymerase, which is used for almost all modern DNA or RNA techniques.

This has to be the most interesting article I have ever read on Mental Floss. Every time i would move to the next headline I would think OH REALLY. One of the few articles where I didn’t know anything about the subject prior to reading.
