Thirding the White Castle/Wichita issue – I had to move to Cincinnati to get them. I’m pretty sure we have among the highest White Castle-to-population ratios anywhere, which is nice because I love them.

White Castles have been available frozen for over a decade now in grocery stores. I’ll assume your states’ grocery chains don’t carry them, but that’s probably not a loss – thawing the poor things out does not result in a genuine slider taste. And they lack pickles.

My favorite Social Security card story came when I was selling Medicare Supplemental Insurance. On the application, I needed the applicant’s name as it appeared on their social security card.

One 80-something lady whose real name I won’t disclose here decided to spell it out for me: M-I-S-S B-A-M-B-I. It seems that when Social Security was starting up, she was working as a burlesque dancer. Since all her work stuff was done using her work name, that’s what appeared on her SS card and then later on her Medicare Card.

The strangest thing about White Castle? I live in Wichita, and there is not a single White Castle to be found here anymore, even though the chain started here.
