The quintessential New Zealand favourite is the pavlova, named after the ballerina when she visited in the 1920s. Imagine a giant meringue, whipped cream and kiwifruit.

....just a quick note on the Cobb Salad from one who was privileged to have eaten one at the Derby before it was so ingloriously demolished....Today's Cobb is nothing like the original...Today the salad is just a bunch of chopped up veggies (most of which actually appeared in the original)...The real Cobb Salad was made of minced veggies...and that combined with the dressing all mixed up together made an unforgettable meal...nothing like the usurpers today that call themselves "Cobb" salads.

Woody Allen would of course include Beef Wellington and Napoléon pasteries. Bartlett pears, too, all washed down with a Harvey Wallbanger.

The skipper invented `Chickin Chester Longtree` named after our sailboat where it became the signature meal. Flatten a chicken breast with an empty wine bottle, roll up with garlic, herbs and cheese. Use toothpicks to hold it together. Wrap each one separately in non-stick aluminum foil and bake on the barby about 30 minutes. Cook sliced potatoes and onions with butter in another foil pouch. Mmmm.
