I work for an oil and gas company and we recently had a symposium with a presentation by a guy that worked for some of the big names in oil well firefighting. It was by far one of the most interesting things I’ve learned about lately. My parents remember when Red Adair came and put out a well fire near my hometown while they were in grade school also.

Growing up in Houston, Texas and working in the oilfield trash end of the business to put myself through college, I ran into his employees at the local drinking establishments. Needless to say all you had to know was they were Red Adair employees and they were given a wide berth when the drinking ensued. These guys were beyond fearless and just this side of crazy.

Wow. Talk about an amazing life! That brings new meaning to the term daredevil. I hope I’m doing something half that amazing in my 70′s.
