Going just by year isn’t quite accurate (well, accurate to the Chinese zodiac). It’s based on a lunar calendar, so just like Chinese New Year, it doesn’t necessarily fall on the first day of the year.
I was born in 1982, for example, but because I was born in early January I was actually born in the Year of the Rooster.
