The Fairbury Jeffs are called such because the town is in Jefferson County, Nebraska. The Mascot "Jeff" is from the cartoon "Mutt and Jeff".

My HS Alma Mater I still believe is one of the worst. It was named after the Canning factory in town. The agreement was that if they funded the school to be built, that the mascot would be a "Canner." So the Mascot, to this day is, "The Biglerville Canners". They have a "Canner Man" that runs around at Football games. It was, and will always be the laughing stock of neighboring schools souly because of the jacked-up mascot.

Biglerville High School located in Biglerville, PA

Enjoy!

Nnnnooooooooooo-body messes with the Papermachine! That was what we yelled to cheer the Camas, Washington Papermakers in the 70's. If you knew the history of the Crown Zellerbach paper machine number 20, you would need no explanation!

The mascot was a cute young man with black bell bottoms and a red shirt. (Yes, those are our school colors.) He was blonde, looking to the side, and had his hands on his hips. Nothing fierce about him, and I've been told they were "modernizing" his appearnce.

We NEVER had the image of a paper machine as our mascot. That's what my husband says appears on line, but the true Papermaker is a human, not a machine. CZ was a major employer and supporter of Camas schools, and that is where the mascot originated, along with the middle school - James David Zellerbach.

When I was in high school in the early 70's the mascot was painted on the wooden floor, as you entered the high school. NO ONE walked on him...we all showed our respect by walking around the Papermaker!

Proud Kingsford Flivver representing! If you don't know what a Flivver is, it's a Ford Model T. There was a Ford factory here until the '50s. This is also the town where charcoal as we know it was invented; I always thought the women's teams should be called the "Briquettes". Our crosstown rivals are the Iron Mountain Mountaineers.

We're pretty close to the Marquette Redmen, the Escanaba Eskymos, Menominee Maroons and their cross-river rivals the Marinette Marines, North Dickinson Nordics (we affectionately omit the "r" when we pronounce it) and the West Iron County Wykons, as well as the previously-mentioned Hurley Midgets, Bessemer Speedboys, Houghton Gremlins, Gwinn Modeltowners and Watersmeet Nimrods.

Both Kingsford and Gwinn made Sports Illustrated's "Top 10 Strange Mascots" list several years ago.

Still scratching my head as to what a modeltowner and a wykon might be... of course, a few miles up the road there's a town named "Felch" so maybe I should just accept it.

In Southeast Missouri, there is a small town/school called Clarkton. Their mascot is the Purple Reindeer.

That's insane on more than one level!
