Today’s Brain Game isn’t too tough, but hey, it’s Wednesday!

Two women from different areas of the country met at college in New England, and developed a lifelong friendship. They kept in touch via email, but instead of calling each other by their real names (Gail and June), the women used three-symbol abbreviations for one another, referencing the U.S. cities that they called home.

Here are the abbreviations; can you name the cities? Good luck:

C@L
OZX

Here is the SOLUTION.

  1. i get the c@l one, but ozx for austin? is there something i am missing?

  2. Brandon,

OZ=OZ like Wizard of Oz, X=Roman Numeral 10.

    OZ Ten

    Austin

  3. I think it’s Oz-Ten with X acting as a roman numeral…I didn’t get it but I think that’s what he was going for.

  4. How fun! Here are a couple I thought of…

Playing off one of your originals,
    UUX

    And for my own creation,
    XYZ (does anyone get it????)

  5. Okay. I wasn’t thinking in this way at all.

JD: UUX = Houston. XYZ? Check Your Zipper?

  6. JD, Very clever (Boise)
    How about MOX

  7. Nick’s right about the second one, Brandon.

And JD? XYZ is excellent – I wish I’d thought of that one!

  8. Thanks! @Dave: Still thinking about MOX…

In the meantime, how about these??

    10P

    XME

  9. JD – I got Tempe. Still thinking of the others.

  10. Dave, I won’t give away MOX, but if I’m correct, it’s in California. :)

  11. 4T W+3rd rock from the sun

    thats where im from.

  12. Don’t know if this works just right, but you can see what I’m going for here:

    BSn

  13. Crow: Fort Worth, TX?

  14. JD: XME – Kissimee? (Kiss-Em-Ee)

    How about:
    OGX – Ogden

  15. if symbols are allowed, how about:
    OT+

  16. 22N

  17. @Aaron: you got it! i’m glad that XME was guessable!

  18. too easy for this clever crowd, but…

    D8N

    LU$

  19. 22N = Tucson? (twos-en)
    D8N = Dayton

  20. @ jennifer, yes!!! right on the mark.

  21. @Dave: finally got MOX – nice one!

  22. LU$ = Lubbock

How about another TX city: SS

  23. How about:

    HI.

    -L&

    TA,

  24. High Point, NC?
    Tacoma, WA

  25. Nice work with High Point/Tacoma.

The 2nd one may a bit of a stretch, though (Midland, TX).

Here are a couple of foreign capitals that come to mind:

    OZ_

    ^NG

  26. OZ_ = Oslo
