Haha, this article is a little bit ridiculous, although having said that I really, really, really want to go to America just so that I can demand a supersize at maccas ^_^

Nobody is forcing you to finish a meal that's clearly too big for you to eat, but so long as you've already paid for it, who cares whether the food ends up on your bum, or in the bin. I know all you "environmentally conscious" people will protest at that comment, (and I'm rather environmentally conscious myself) but I'd much rather NOT have to have a quadruple bypass at 30 from eating all the junk than worry overmuch about wasting food.

I agree there's been a huge change in the portion sizes, but ultimately the major change has been in the fact that we used to eat real food and nowadays our grocery stores are mainly full of processed foods with absolutely no nutritional value. Foods that not only don't support the body but do it harm are the main problem. We must stop eating the stuff that man made and go back to eating the bacon, eggs, butter and other natural foods that come from nature and trust me, you won't feel the need to eat a larger amount, because real food doesn't lie to you about being hungry after you've eaten enough. Thanks for the great comparison, very eye opening. Since it costs them a fraction to make fake food, it makes sense that they'd make them bigger, make us fatter and unhealthier, more medical money, and on and on the system goes. Feeding us and them!

Not only have the portion sizes exploded, but the food now more processed, chemically preserved, and less nutritious. I bet you can't pronounce half the ingredients in the pizza dough or the Caesar Salad dressing.

We need to return to local food, grown as close to our houses as possible.

A lot of things have changed over the years. Especially the serving sizes of fast food chains.

It's one thing to know in your head that portion sizes have gotten out of control. But quite another to see it clearly like this lol. I love Mental Floss! My favorite magazine. One of the things the readers of my blog struggle with is portion control, especially with how today's society is. Motivation to keep it under control is key!

So I went to McDonalds today. I was in a hurry, usually get a happy meal when I go there. Today I decided to get their new Mini Meal (since I am 39 after all). But I had to ask if the Double Cheeseburger offered in the Mini Meal could be just a regular cheeseburger. The guy on the intercom was like "uh, ok lite meat. that's a first". What?? That's a first?? Sad.

I think the biggest thing to remember when eating, is to just eat until you are no longer hungry. A lot of times we either don't want to waste food, or it tastes so good we can't stop.
