Forget stress balls and punching bags. If you’re feeling destructive and simply want to break something, check out the Anger Release Machine. Created by artists Katja Kublitz and Ronnie Yarisal, Anger Release is basically a traditional vending machine stuffed full of glassware and china. When someone pays money for a particular product (say, the beautiful vase at D4, or the porcelain cat at C3), the coils slowly push the fragile piece to the front. And then it drops just like a bag of potato chips would… except with a slightly noisier crash!

Just a minor correction: Those cats are not Hello Kitty, but rather maneki neko, or “inviting cats.” They are good-luck charms which are supposed to invite good fortune into a home or business.

Great catch, everyone! I just skimmed the image and wasn’t thinking…

Before I read the complete article, I was thinking it was a vending machine with breakable items in it that wouldn’t be vended, getting stuck on the way out, and you would be forced, and welcome, to shake and pound the vending machine as much as you liked to try to release your item.
I think that having something broken for you is not as anger-releasing enough as doing the damage yourself, ha.

Could I just get the cat and smash it myself? Seems to me that would be a better release.

those are maneiki neko, but Hello Kitty was inspired by that tradition of the welcoming cats.

Well that just takes all the fun out of it if it does the smashing for you. Are we becoming that hostile and unable to control ourselves that we resort to a China breaking machine for release. I say just go outside an scream a little, people will think you crazy, leave you alone and you might even get a little time off cause of it…Ha ha!

What if it doesn’t break when it hits the bottom? Wouldn’t it cost a lot? Why can’t you smash it yourself?
