In the comments under yesterday’s post on Real Reality Stars, reader Dawn wisely mentioned Star Search. Here’s a quick and dirty list of a few careers launched with help from Ed McMahon’s talent show:
I also remember an episode of Full House where Uncle Joey competed and lost. His opponent was Steve Oedekerk, who played himself and went on to write Bruce Almighty, Patch Adams, The Nutty Professor and Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls.
Didn’t Sinbad get his start on Star Search, too?

Sam Harris anyone? He was the male vocalist who won the first season and went on to a record deal and Broadway. I think he’s done some TV and film. And, if memory serves, Jenny Jones (yes, THAT Jenny Jones) was one of the stand-up contestants in the early seasons. Kevin James and Brad Garrett as well.
