Weird Website of the Week: Selleck Waterfall Sandwich
by Ransom Riggs - February 1, 2010 - 7:30 AM

tom-selleck_320I have to say, I’m consistently amazed that A) websites like this exist, and B) people (like me) find them interesting enough (for a minute or two at least) to scroll through them and laugh and tell other people, and also that C) a meta-weird randomness like this will probably attract enough attention to garner a book deal of some sort. So before someone gives it to you as a gag gift, you can be proud to say you saw it here first: Selleck Waterfall Sandwich.

Yep, it’s just like the title says. Three simple elements, quickly Photoshopped together in a low-fi mishmash (which is kind of the point), featuring Tom in a baseball uniform with pastrami on rye, Tom firing a shotgun through a bologna on a roll, Tom in a tux underwater with a cheesesteak … and so on. It’s even got a theme song.

What do you think? Stupid? Brilliant? Both? Should I be fired for even posting this crap? (A frequent theme in the comments recently!) Let us know!

  1. If I were Tom Selleck I would be on the lookout for a stalker!!!

  2. If I were Tom Selleck, I would find this person and beat the snot out of him. I always find your posts fascinating, Ransom; especially the strange geographies. Incredible stuff.

  3. Weird? Check. Stupid? Check. Probably going to be popular? Unfortunately, check. Now if it were Tom as PART of a sandwich… that’s a whole different kinda website.

  4. He appears to be a fun target these days between this site and the @t_selleck Twitter account.

  5. If I were Tom Selleck my mustache would be less cool than it now is.

  6. As a fan of Selleck the actor and a Magnum PI lover, I don’t understand. Maybe I am too old. Maybe this is like one of those mosquito tones – after a certain age you just don’t notice it.

    Oh well.

  7. Apparently some people just have way too much time on their hands.

  8. I appreciate anything that makes me laugh or smile, I vote that Ransom keeps making posts like this.

  9. What? What is this???? Fun!

  10. I think these photos are pointless and a time waster.

  11. @ Susan
That’s the point. It’s meant to irrelevent and waste time

  12. If the sandwiches were better illustrated, I’d say it’s fine. But no, let the firings commence.

  13. I love stuff like this. Makes me feel better that I’m not the only person that sits around and let’s random things pop in her head. I just don’t have have the time (or lack of firewall) to put my ideas on… um… internet?

  14. Ransom,

I was delighted when I found this website last week. I’m glad you posted it.

  15. I dont get it. I’m a little disapointed in this post…

  17. that’s ridiculous. and awesome. love the theme song.

  18. Ahh, the internet. An amazing technological tool that is now being used to propagate Selleck Waterfall Sandwiches, LOLcats, inane Twitter posts from half-witted celebrities, and the like.

The way I see it, we have to take the good with the bad. For every amazing website (Google, Pandora, Wikipedia), there’s at least a couple thousand lame ones. Whatever. Nobody’s forcing you to spend time perusing the dumb ones.

  19. I think this isn’t too worthy of mentioning, but whatever. Please remember, this is mental floss and not mental ache!

  20. This is from our blog, TIGER BUTTER, the original link here will give you the back story if you’re interested.
