Between 1969 and 1972, Twelve men walked on the moon, but many of their names have floated off into anonymity.   1. 11/12 A few notes of possible interest. Harrison Schmidt was the only scientist to go to the moon. He was selected specifically because he was a geologist. Edgar Mitchell preformed experiments in ESP while on the moon. Both of them are from New Mexico.
