Years ago I remember reading [in Esquire?] that shortly before his death Hitch was planning a movie about Jack the Ripper.

FRENZY did not have "a mediocre cast"---jon finch, the hero, was great.

FRENZY, is though, a slightly mediocre movie, like a feature length episode of the half hour hitchcock tv show.

Hitchcock said once he was working on a film where rattlesnakes had their rattles removed and hidden in a car to kill the person who got into the car. The movie was never made. Was one of the films on the list that film?

Now, having read the screenplay for Mary Rose (thanks, edo8!), I really wish he'd made it. Curious little story; I'd love to see it.

And nope, no UGGs.

I believe Hitchcock was planning on making a film called Village of Stars at the time of his death, but he made the flop Family Plot instead. It's unfortunate, since the plot of Village of Stars would appear to be among his most suspenseful. The plot of the film deals with nuclear war. It looks like the Russians have pushed the button down, and a fleet of American planes with nuclear bombs have been sent. Just as one of the planes is about to release a bomb, it's discovered that it is all a mistake. The bomb is halfway out of a plane that will eventually run out of fuel. Where do you drop a nuclear bomb when you absolutely have to drop it? Unless the unpublished script appears on the internet, we will never know what the film's answer what was the film's answer to that question.

Speaking of movies Hitch didn't make, "13 Tzameti" feels like a movie he MIGHT have made -- had he been born in 1963, the same year as Quentin Tarantino. (Hitchcock was born in 1899.)

Nice post, and I'm sure there are more to add to the list. At one point, Hitchcock was preparing a film about the sinking of the Titanic.

Barr, Charles. “A Marvellously Dramatic Subject: Hitchcock's Titanic Project.” The Hitchcock Annual (2000-2001) edited by Sidney Gottlieb and Richard Allen, 100-114. Fairfield, Connecticut: The Hitchcock Annual, 2001.

"he regrouped nicely by making Psycho instead"

Quite the understatement, haha.

"The Blind Man" could have been rather interesting if they had the blind guy seeing snippets of the previous owners murder and he had to solve it, etc... maybe there is already something like that out there as it sounds familiar.
