Land reform in Africa may be the key to solving the continent’s other problems. Land rights would bring security, stability, sustenance, and power to those who’ve lost them over the past couple of centuries. (via Metafilter)

  1. Loved the article on land reform. The dilemma, of course, being the uncertainty that the next regime will honor your property rights. As an evil Republican, I believe the key rights a government must not infringe are life, liberty, and PROPERTY.

  2. Loved the grammatical errors site. I always say ‘try and’ rather than ‘try to’.

  3. One that bugs me, and it might be just my region, is when people say “located at” which is redundant. This was in ad copy for hundreds of radio spots I produced over the years. I usually dropped “located” unless they insisted.

People will call a business and ask “Where are you located at?” which is a double redundancy! “Where are you?” will do just fine.

  4. “Could care less” is a pet peeve of mine. When I hear someone use the phrase incorrectly I usually respond with “I couldn’t.”

A subtle nudge to point out the error.

  5. Slate link didn’t work for me, so I had to find it elsewhere:
    http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/02/if_famous_filmmakers_directed.html

I like Tarantio and Wes Anderson. Wonder what that says about me?

  6. i’m with zed on this one. i like for things to follow logic, and that phrase doesn’t.

  7. And why not? The First Lady of Television has more talent in one of her support hose than most of the “actresses” we’re subjected to every night. Plus, an appearance by her would make SNL worth watching, at least once.
