(My mom hated them, and kept telling women they were ruining their hair, but, that’s what they wanted, so what could she do?)

These towering creations were made possible with lots of hairspray, and a product called “Wave-Set”.

I was a young kid, about 6 years old, back then. I snuck into the salon (which was attached to our house), and used most of a bottle of Wave-Set giving myself a spiked hairdoo….

My hair stood straight up, and was cast iron hard. My pride in my creation did not last long….

My parents had a fit. My mom did her best to wash it out, but the stuff was like crazy glue. My next haircut, which took place immediately, was a “Kojack Cut” a “Jean Luc Picard Special”, a “Yule Brenner Deluxe”….

I think you get the point!
Oh, yes, my hair finally did grow back. I never tried that sort of thing again.
