Love the look of taxidermy, but hate the whole dead animal part? Maybe it’s time you stepped up to the wonderful world of crochet taxidermy as created by Shauna Richardson. She creates life-sized pieces that are exceptionally realistic. She even completes the look with glass eyes, plastic teeth and fake claws. To make them actually appear to have fur, she uses thick, coarse, woolen yarns

The link has even more fantastic pieces by the artist, who was selected to represent British artists in the 2012 Olympics, and wonderful photos of her creations in “natural” outdoor settings.

  1. Awesome. This could have saved me years of trauma! I was forced to go to my taxidermist-uncle’s house every Thanksgiving. It had to be at his house, since it was hunting season. The meal was constanly being interrupted by people arriving with carcasses on their roofs.

(This was about twenty years ago. Not coincidentally, I’ve been a vegetarian for the past 20 years…)

  2. It’s definitely less creepy than the real thing!

  3. Yeah, I sure hope someone ate all the meat, from all the yarns that lost their lives for this!
