Now that’s a nasty breakup
by Ransom Riggs - April 9, 2007 - 8:25 AM

I’m probably lucky: I haven’t broken up with (or been broken up with by) that many people. Those few occasions where actual face-to-face breaking-up was necessary were often awkward and often painful — and sometimes both — but thankfully, revenge was never a part of the equation. Here are some examples of just how revengefully wrong breakups can go:

More nasty breakups, after the jump.

  1. Wow! I guess ‘Heav’n has no rage like love to hatred turn’d
Nor Hell a fury, like a woman scorn’d’ could be true! Are there no men who resorted to these kinds of revenge?

  2. This could not have come at a better time. Thanks for the ideas mental_floss!

  3. The ‘hatchet job’ was super-creative, huh?

  4. i remember that billboard–it was in times square this past summer, near the jamba juice on 47th and broadway.
    it was inspired.

  5. That infamous “Steven” billboard was viral marketing for some CourtTV show about a private eye. They had a blog and everything. They kind of showed their hand when the same billboard started popping up in cities all over the country.

I have my doubts about the “real-ness” of the pickax one, too, but I had to be a soggy blanket.

  6. I hope the vandals who damaged other people’s personal property were caught and jailed and/or fined.

  7. Ah Barry,
But what if it was THEIR property? Can you be charged for property damage if it’s half yours?
I’m just glad it ain’t me, in this case.

  8. The pick axe one is definitely a fake. notice that the glass on the windshield is not cracked. Also, their is not any puncture marks around the ones on the hood. Other then that the others are all funny.

  9. People who resort to things like this, are simply childish and deserve to be alone

  10. There is no reason to bring up Bill Clinton, except because you are filled with hate.

  11. I must add – All Clinton did was have oral sex. He didn’t kill thousands in a trumped up war built on lies. So shut up about Clinton, he’s no longer president.

  12. Gee, Wiz- looks like YOU are the one who is full of hate here.

  13. I got the impression the Clinton reference was a joke.
Thank you WizardBoy for setting thing straight.

  14. The car-rage is more than just a breakup. I bet its not even a breakup! Those are women who suddenly found out their men are cheating on them, and had hoped to get away with it. An honest breakup is easier to take.

  15. She (or he) could have done the axes a little more thoughtfully. The way (I’ll assume she) she arranged the axes makes the man (assuming) need only replace the top, hood and windshield. BUT, she should have put an axe in the hood, drivers door, back seat door, fenders, and equally all over the car. Creates more “overall” damage rather than “central” damage, like all the axes in the hood.

  16. Those aren’t axes. They are mattocks.

  17. No one with any legal sense would put up the billboard above. It would immediately open you to a libel suit and would really hurt you in divorce court.

  18. I love how people spout out their 2 cents before they do any research. The FIRST LINK searching google for “pick ax and audi” would have given you the answer.

Man were you right, thats “definitely a fake”….

  19. I dont see how anyone could be suid for libel in the case of that billboard. It doesnt list anyones last name or any real identafiable data.
