Three Things I Didn’t Know About Yahoo!
by Jason English - May 8, 2007 - 10:50 AM

yahoo_hq.jpgAll the talk about a merger with Microsoft inspired me to read up on Yahoo! Here are a few tidbits I learned:

• The site’s original name was “Jerry’s Guide to the World Wide Web,” after co-founder Jerry Yang.

• The name “Yahoo” had already been trademarked (for barbecue sauce, knives and human-propelled watercraft), which is why the company added the exclamation point.

• The stock’s all-time high was $475, on January 3, 2000. The all-time low came September 26, 2001 – $8.11.

  1. I heard years ago that Yahoo! stands for:

    You
    Always
    Have
    Other
    Options

  2. It’s a good thing they went with the shorter name. “Jerry’s Guide to the World Wide Web” would have been hard to yodel.
