No Photoshop Necessary: Vegetarian Art
by David K. Israel - May 14, 2007 - 8:25 AM

What is it with moms and email forwards? It’s like they learn how to email and then instantly become overforwarders. In my family, before email was even invented, my grandparents used to cut what they thought were interesting articles out of the paper and snail-mail ‘em bulk. A package the size of an encyclopedia set would arrive in the mail each week stuffed with clippings. “This made me think of you, David dear” my grandmother would write at the top in of the newspaper clipping in her familiar handwriting. Or “You’ll love this!” my grandfather might scrawl.

So I can’t really blame my mom for her forwarding tendencies because clearly it’s genetic. Email just makes it ever so much easier. But every now and again she actually forwards me an email with something worth reading—and today was just such an instance. Only it wasn’t worth reading as much as it was worth seeing. Check out these hi-sterical photos of vegetarian art. More after the jump! If anyone knows who made ‘em, please let me know so I can acknowledge the artist here in the post. [thanks Sue for informing us thatJoost Elffers and Saxton Freymann are the creators!]

  5. I loves these guys I get their calendar every year for the kitchen :)

  6. My mom does both - sends me annoying forwards AND snail-mails me clips from the newspaper… and coupons for things she thinks I might buy. Ah, mom.

  7. Sara: I totally forgot about the coupons! I think my mom once sent a coupon for .25 cents off dish soap and the stamp she used to mail it to me cost her at least that!

  8. I think they’re really cool.Got everyone in my house going”oooh!!”
    Thanks a lot

  9. They remind me of the animated refridgerator food in Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.

  10. They have a little book and yearly calendar just with dogs, so cute I almost don’t feel the compulsion to have a real dog.

  11. Cool! They remind me of an animated short I saw years ago of a fight between a bowl of fruit and a bowl of veggies. Stop-action animation. The highlight was the bananas throwing slices at the opposition.

  12. Three tomato cheers for creative minds! I take my cabbage top off to both of you!!!

  13. My two toddlers own “Dog Food” and “Baby food”.I am assuming by the same food artists. These are hilarious board books available through scholastic book orders. I love the penguins!
