Paying for your Attention

GOOD Magazine (which is a terrific little publication, by the way) has produced some clever videos for the YouTube audience. My favorite is this one, which stylishly eases it’s way across the NY landscape, while pointing out how much it costs to advertise on various platforms. If you dig it, they’ve got some more great videos over at YouTube, or you can visit their website at Goodmagazine.com

  1. Hmmm. I wonder how much they charged Starbuck’s?

  2. Unfortunately, the video is no longer available.

Johnny Cat - you’re not from the D.C. area, are you? ;)

  3. I really think the Starbuck’s advertising is ironic, claiming that the “pay” for advertising but their store standards require that all hot drinks (other than lattes… figure that one out) require barista servers to place the sleeve on the drink for consumers. Seeing that it is a company mandated safety prevention tool, I find it hard to believe that the cost of a sleeve isn’t figured into a $5.50 tab for a tall caramel macchiato. Just one way consumers are made to pay for the own advertising shoved back in their faces, it’s not like Starbucks couldn’t save on the printing and dole out plain bits of anonymous recycled cardboard so we don’t burn on fingers on our Sumatra.
