Andy Warhol’s 1964 film Empire, which contains no plot or dialog and is entirely comprised of a stationary shot of the Empire State Building, is roughly 485 minutes long.

Related Fact: According to Warhol, the point of this film is to “see time go by.”

  1. didn’t someone once say everybody would have their 15 minutes of fame? ;)

  2. Did he really need that last 5 minutes? Was there an unexpected plot twist? Couldn’t he have made it an even 8 hours? Don’t mind me, that’s just my OCD acting up again.

By the way, was this actually shown in theaters? Did people pay to watch this? Were any of them sober? Any flossers out there old enough to remember this movie?

  3. That’s just silly.

  4. This was before my time…what a waste. Gotta remember that Warhol was an artist and they do not think like those of us who aren’t artists.
