Over the past few years I've gotten into abandoned site exploration (amusement parks, drive ins etc) and there is just something about the hunt for these places followed by the anticipation of getting there, the fear as you suddenly realize you could be killed by hobos (or tetanus) and then the satisfaction of taking the most amazing photographs that I'm completely addicted to. Its time consuming but worth the effort.

I wonder if there's anything out there (in English) explaining the Japanese amusement park story. I'd be interested in knowing the hows and whys of it's abandonment. Land is at a premium in most of Japan, so it's interesting that it was closed and just left to sit there and not redeveloped.

Have always been fascinated by abandoned amusement parks. Visited some as a child in the Northeast and remember them as if a dream. Great post and links...

I discovered on the amusement park site that if you click the 'research3.html' link at the bottom, it goes to a huge archive of abandoned sites. That guy's been busy!
