When Justin Bieber’s marketing team decided to hold a contest where fans could vote on his next tour stop, they must have thought they were on to something great. Unfortunately for them, so did the many users of the website 4chan.
Since there were no limitations on the countries he could visit, an anonymous user nominated North Korea and soon enough, there were more than 500,000 votes for Bieber to visit part of George W.’s “Axis of Evil.”
Only time will tell if Bieber actually tries to break the North Korean barrier, but if so, it’s certain to be a show the locals won’t soon forget.
If Justin Bieber puts on a concert in North Korea, you can just go ahead and kill me. Because then I can say that I’ve seen it all. And it turns out that The Bieb and I are not compatible as BF and GF according to the website ad above the comment section. Alas, Bieber, you have broken my heart. It was not meant to be. Good luck with your North Korean concert. The history books may one day say that the Bieb was responsible for bringing peace to the world.

Was it the DPRK that voted him in, or other countries that voted him out?
I hope he goes…. They can keep him. When his balls drop and he stops sounding like a little girl and the real little girls grow up and turn on him, he’d become addicted to whatever the cheapest drug on the streets is at the time and finally found dead from autoerotic asphyxiation. I think he needs the guidance a police state would give him.

Stephen! Why so mean?

It would be great if Kim Jong Il took him hostage and made Beiber perform during all his meals and sing him lullabies. Also have him produce and album containing all songs about Kim Jong Il.

Jill, the JB camp came out on 7/7 & said this was a hoax. On the other hand, now I don’t have to explain to my kids why this is funny. North Where?

Wow, I voted for Justin Bieber to perform in NK, but I had no idea that would actually become #1. I figured there were too many fangirls who wanted him to stay in America.

these commments are upsetting. mental floss i feel has a very clean, positive and well thought out comments section very consistently. now just because there’s a post on justin bieber everyone turns into giant squids of anger and hate. i feel as though i’ve lost some faith in the mental floss commmunity. i’m sure this post was meant more as a funny thing on the internet than as a post where you can spread hate on justin bieber. i understand that many people get annoyed with bieber but that doesn’t mean you can spread hate on a website that is highly respected and many children access.

“Giant squids of anger and hate.” Why so mean, alli? I’d hate for any children who may be reading this to pick up on that kind of language.
As to the topic, I’m with Eric, Stephen, and Jay. I’d rather have giant squids of anger and hate suck my eyeballs out than listen to any sounds produced by the vocal chords of that spawn of Satan.

Nooooo way he’ll go. And I too am shocked at all this Biebs hatred. Jeez he’s just a kid.
And dang it all if his songs aren’t catchy “baby, baby, baby noooo….”

North Korea will never let him in. They should go for Antarctica.

I voted for N.K (don’t tell my friend, she’s a big JB fan!) ;3

Did none of you people read the first link in today’s “Morning Cup of Links” on this site? 4chan can really hold their head up over this — http://gawker.com/5590166/11+year+old-viral-video-star-placed-under-police-protection-after-death-threats
As for the “Where should Justin play?” poll, this isn’t the first time 4chan has screwed with a survey, a poll, or contest. Why so much hate for Bieber and no call-out of 4chan?

I’m surprised at the lack of perspective some people have over the emotional reaction to Bieber. He’s another in a long line of initially innocent boy-toys the music industry churns out periodically to appeal to young girls… it’s like the Jonas Brothers, Clay Aiken, N’Sync, BSB, Hanson, New Kids on the Block, Menudo, Danny Partridge, and so on. There’s an intrinsic antagonism to having marketers shove down our throats an image that isn’t real but takes on a temporary demigod status that is unachievable anyway.
He’s probably a good kid for now… and there’s probably a certain reasonable innocence in him for now… but don’t feign surprise at what others believe he represents as a pseudo-paragon of adolescent female desire.

Also, I haven’t heard a single song of his and I thought his name was Beaver.

The poll wasn’t sanctioned by himself, his record label or anyone official for that matter. It was merely a fan page (look around on the site and you’ll see what I mean) and had no pull whatsoever.
