Truth in Fast Food-vertsing

The folks at the West Virginia Surf Report have this great little fast food expose going on (in fact they’re not afraid to tell you how great it is… they’ve dubbed it a “Pulitzer-caliber” study at the bottom of their page!). And while time will only tell if they get their just awards, the idea’s pretty clever. Essentially, they’re taking beauty shots from fast food advertising, and putting them head to head with the stuff straight out of a store. There’s no tampering with the food; just pics of what the burgers and specials look like when they roll out of bed in the morning. Click here to see more (via the always amazing Neatorama).

  1. this reminds me of a scene in the michael douglas movie Falling Down.

  2. well, of course the ad will look better! for the burgers, the meat isn’t even cooked through & everythings pushed to the front. why would you buy something if looked like the real thing??

    duh

  3. That is some highly disturbing imagery. Thanks to pictures like that and movies like “Supersize Me”, my enjoyment of fast-food decreases every year. Which may not be a bad thing.

  4. just hilarious, hilarious, hilarious!

  5. So - are you giving up cooking just because your results don’t look like the picture associated with the recipe (either online or in a cookbook)?

  6. That second comparison is just gross (the real one I mean.) A lot of the time, the food you see in commercials and on the menus are actually plaster molds. That sandwich probably bounces.

  7. I went to Johnny Carino’s for dinner a while back, and instead of a dessert menu they bring out a tray full of plastic facsimiles. Pretty convincing visually, but they all taste the same.

  8. I wonder which will get the pulizser first this or the link at the bottom to the pictures of people in newspaper ads who look like they are farting.
