A group of my college friends used to gather each year on the Solstice to eat pancakes for breakfast. Our reasoning was that on the longest day of the year, you absolutely had to have a good breakfast. Sadly, as we’ve all moved away and have family obligations that make it more difficult to get together, the tradition has lapsed.

I worked with a man Phil Cuzzi, current major league umpire, who umpired the solstice game in 1986.

I believe one of the minor league teams was called the “49ers.” So named because Alaska was the 49th state in the Union.

its nice to see other countries celebrating the earth and its wonders…

i would love it if our country would celebrate summer solstice as well, and plant a tree…be a hippy folks! wear a flower and give someone a hug…
