Weird but delicious: Chocolate covered bacon. The only kind that I've had so far was a chocolate bar with bacon bits in it. (Real ones, not that fake crap you put on salads.) It was interesting. Nice Salty/sweet combo and had a bit of a crunch when you got a chunk of bacon.

Weird and disgusting, however: Licorice and black pepper. I've never had (nor will I ever have) any of this monstrosity, but a couple years ago I heard stories that the foreign exchange student from Sweden brought some in to school and gave some to my old Computer Graphics teacher. Apparently she threw it up in a garbage can right there in the classroom... *Shudder*

Since this article has been written, they released cheeseburger Doritos. They aren't that bad. Try bacon flavored lollypops or nacho cheese mints for weird.

I'm not surprised that the Celery Jello was mentioned, but they also tried Tomato -- went over about as well.

There was a brief attempt by someone in the 1970's to come up with a vegetable-flavored chewing gum in five assorted flavors to try to get kids to like the taste of veggies. The flavors were, as I recall, green bean, corn, tomato, peas, and carrots. Didn't last long.

Ore-Ida, a large enough company to know better, tried to do chocolate covered french fries a few years back. If nothing else, given that they were "crinkle-cut" fries, and given the shape of the average french fry, and that these were chocolate covered, you can guess what the package illustration looked like...

What gets me is that nobody in the doubtless rather lengthy line from idea to mass production doesn't say, "What the hell are you thinking!?"

There was a "World of Coca-Cola" setup in Walt Disney World's Epcot Center for years (might still be there, I don't know), and they had that horrid Beverly stuff. I would describe it best as carbonated, liquefied chalk. One of the people working the place said that they had an initiation for any new workers. They had to drink a full glass of the stuff -- not just one of the little sample cups.

The most unpleasant things I've had are gingko nuts (tremendously healthful, but not good unless cooked a LOT), and durian fruit (which, though not tasting as bad as some claim, still was too strong for more than maybe one bite).

I have read in jello's long ago history that they once offered vanilla and tea flavors as well as the chocolate and coffee flavors you mentioned. Vanilla and tea flavors were (obviuosly) very short lived products.
