Ever wonder what Earthworm Jim would look like in a female form? Artist David Stonecipher created an excellent series of drawings featuring character’s gender role reversals. There’s also Lara Croft as a man and a very sexy version of a female Link from The Legend of Zelda.
While the art is really cool, it also brings up an interesting point about gender roles in video games, particularly for women, who are portrayed a lot less frequently. As a female gamer, I have to admit that I really wish some of these girl characters were real.
I loved Earthworm Jim on the Genesis. Jill would have so made for a fun game too.
Do you hear that Nintendo,PS,XBox,etc….?

What does it say that I thought all the female versions looked good, but the male versions didn’t feel right? (At the very least, I can say this guy didn’t really make adjustments for the character’s, um, most prominent aspects.)
It is distressing that there are so few female player-characters in video games, and that most of them are hypersexualized. It’s like supermodels just weren’t having enough of an effect on women’s body issues.

These look like fan art. The kind that makes me uncomfortable…
I agree that the only female main characters in videogames tend to be hypersexualized, but the men tend to be stereotyped, too, either overmuscled or super-testosteroned. I reccommend the Lego games, where the only sexual characteristics are painted on the front of their Lego bodies.

The cartoon TV show of EWJ was solid gold.
What other kids show would include the following dialog:
Jim: (walks up in cleaning apron) Okay. I’ve finished doing the dishes, re-grouting the bathtub, and cleaned out the stables of the Twelve Incontinent Bulls. Tell me, O wise Sword of Righteousness, were these menial tasks meant to teach me humility?
Sword of Righteousness: No, they just needed to be done. I wasn’t gonna do it.
