Took my 8 year old on a road trip through memphis . We saw Graceland and the Stax Museum. Makes you appreciate what an incredible country we live in. She wants to go back next summer and she’s wearing out the Staple singers CD we bought there.

I realize this is a dead topic, but Memphis is not exactly a “little town.” It’s the 17th largest city in the country…over “little towns” such as Denver, Boston, and Baltimore. We do have some big cities down here.

A small detail, but Elvis didn’t give Graceland its name. It was already called Graceland when he bought it, named for the daughter of the original owner.

Was just there on business and had time to visit Graceland and Sun Studios. Of the two Sun was more interesting, but Memphis is pretty neat little town that is trying to clean up its act. A little genrification wouldn’t hurt, and the taxes would help. Still, neat little city on the Mississippi.

Also, reasonably close to Memphis are Clarksdale, home of the Delta Blues Museum, among other things, and Oxford, William Faulkner’s old stomping grounds. Both of those, of course, are in Mississippi, my old and current stomping grounds…
