The nine white squares inside the main red grid should be filled with the digits 1 through 9. Each digit should appear only once in this main grid (the red square). One number is provided for you. Place the other 8 digits in their correct spots so that the mathematical equations work both across and down. IMPORTANT: Remember algebraic rules when solving the problems… multiplication/division should be performed in the first step, then addition/subtraction in the second. Good luck!

Here is my SOLUTION.

  1. Nice tricky puzzle today!

  2. The 58 made it easy– there’s only one way to get that using _ * _ + _.

After that, everything falls quickly into place.

  3. Sandy – I respectfully request that you no longer offer the Magic Square. I find that I have an OCD fixation with them. While if necessary I can set aside the other puzzles while at work until I have the time to do them, the Magic Square is relentless – it won’t let me alone until I solve it. Thank you.

  4. Dave,

    4 + 6 * 9 = 58
    2 + 7 * 8 = 58

Also, there was some talk about making this interactive the other day and it got me curious, so i made this:

  5. I’m not saying this one was easy, but I still liked it better without the clue.
    :)
@tressel: Do not speak of such horrors. No Math Square? Whatever will I do on Mondays?!?!?!?

  6. This is the first one I couldn’t get on my own…I must be tired :(
