Gravity in Canada: Solved

sdflkjFor years, the low gravity of Canada seemed just another benefit of its hard-to-pinpoint, happy-go-lucky image; however, scientists have recently gone public with an explanation of why, why Canada, do you boast lower gravity than the U.S.?

Researchers have puzzled for years over whether this was due to the crust there rebounding slowly after the end of the last ice age or a deeper issue involving convection in the Earth’s mantle – or some combination of the two. Now, ultra-precise measurements taken over four years by a pair of satellites known as GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) reveal that each effect is equally responsible for Canada’s low gravity. The work could shed light on how continents form and evolve over time.

Ever heard of post-glacial rebound? Well this is it. How wonderful if a lower gravity signal could be the result of emerging from a break-up! Until that equilibrium is reached, here are some low gravity bikes (aka “truck bikes”) for your diversion…

  2. Not sure if slightly lower gravity would help move a truck bike around; I do know that the absence of hills would. From what I understand, the Netherlands is the place for that. The flat terrain is the reason Henry Workcycles is still making bikes that make those truck bikes look like girly bikes.

  5. Hmmm.

    If were coming out of an ice age (ie, rebounding from one having ended), doesn’t it make sense that the world would be getting warmer? Perhaps warmer enough to account for all the supposed carbon-load-caused heating, without something as specious and unbelievable as the CO2 excuse for global warming? Sounds like scientists pounding one more nail into the “all scientists agree” fallacy.

    And I won’t even comment on the information leading to this conclusion coming from a satellite named GRACE!

  6. I could use and wouldn’t mind having one of those HLS7 handcycles(Hand-pedalled cycle) from the Worksman site but unfortunately they cost about 4 times more than I could spend.
